Campground Host
Job Description
$11 an hour – Seasonal
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor, the Campground Host provides assistance for the maintenance and management of the Lucius Woods, Gordon Dam, and/or Mooney Dam Campgrounds. One host will be assigned to one campground. Assists campground guests and park visitors. Campground work 20-30 hours per week and must be available to work weekends (negotiable schedule). Must provide own vehicle, mobile camping unit (RV or trailer) and cell phone and be willing to primarily reside in the assigned campground from approximately mid-May to mid-September. Full service (electric and water) campsite and personal use firewood will be provided at no additional cost during the term of service. The Host will be issued an official shirt and name tag to wear while on duty.
This posting will remain open until adequate applications are received. Based on 2022 salary grade.
- Greet and assist campers, campground guests and park visitors and answer questions.
- Assist campers in locating, reserving, and/or paying for a campsite.
- Sell firewood to campers.
- Assist with campground/park rules and regulations explanations and monitoring compliance. Report all problems/disturbances to supervisor.
- Cut/trim grass, trim trees/shrubs, collect garbage/litter, and perform a variety of grounds maintenance work.
- Clean buildings and restrooms, stock toweling and other supplies as necessary.
- Inspect campsites after every camper checkout and clean as necessary.
- Perform a variety of related custodial and maintenance tasks as necessary.
- Make minor repairs to facilities and/or report repair needs to supervisor.
- Assist and coordinate work needs and duties with seasonal park staff.
- Performs other duties as required.
Must be at least 18 years of age, experience in customer service environments. Some experience in custodial duties and the operation of lawn care equipment preferred. Completion of a standard high school diploma (or GED) or any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must provide own vehicle, mobile camping unit (RV or trailer) and cell phone and be willing to primarily reside in the assigned campground from approximately mid-May to mid-September. Must set an example by being a model camper practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around assigned site and observe all rules and regulations. Works a variable schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings, as assigned. Must possess a valid driver’s license and sufficient personal automobile insurance coverage.

- Ability to get along well with people and to remain calm and friendly at all times.

- Ability to work as a team player with other employees in a public setting.
- Ability to effectively communicate rules and regulations to campground/park visitors.
- Ability to effectively use and operate pickup truck, trailers, lawn care equipment, trimmers, cleaning equipment, ladders, pumps, hand and power tools, cell phone, tablet, and electronic payment machine.
Working Conditions:
Work is mostly outside and may include exposure to inclement weather conditions. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to physically get out and make rounds on foot, bicycle, or by vehicle throughout the campground and park area. Ability to work outside and adapt to changing work conditions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, bend, stand, balance, sit; and reach, grasp, talk, hear and see; and occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds. Specific physical abilities required by this job include using both hands for frequent fingering and grasping; vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Testing Requirements:
Structured interview, references and/or background investigation. A physical examination may be administered to assess requirements necessary to perform the essential duties of this job.
