Volunteer Activities• Campground Host DescriptionHere is a great opportunity to volunteer as Campground Hosts at Gettysburg National Military Park. Our Campground Hosts work as volunteers at the McMillan Woods Group Campground. The hosts provide information to Boy Scouts and assist them with locating their assigned campsites. The hosts provide visitors with information on things to do and see in the park and surrounding areas. The hosts assist in organizing horse trailer parking, Hosts may perform minor restroom and campground maintenance duties, gather occupancy information, and keep the protection staff informed of any law enforcement issues within the campground. Other duties may be assigned as mutually agreed upon. The campground is located on the west side of the park. Spring and fall can bring cold, windy weather, humidity, fog, rain, and occasional snow. Summers are hot and humid with occasional thunderstorms. Power outages may occur. A variety of animals and insects such as skunks, gnats, deer, are native. The closest grocery store is located approximately 4 miles away from the park in Gettysburg. We are seeking volunteers with excellent customer service skills who like to meet and communicate with a variety of people. A good attitude, the ability to listen, and the ability to relay information are important to this position. A valid driver’s license and background investigation is required.In return for your volunteer work, you will be provided with a camping site which includes water and electric hookups. You will need to provide a recreation vehicle for your lodging. Volunteer uniforms (hats, shirts, and nametags) will be issued. Training, including portable radio operations, will be provided. Hosts will work a minimum of 30 hours per week, which includes weekends and holidays. Hosts will have two consecutive weekdays off. Shifts will vary depending upon operational needs.
