Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Trail/Campground Maintenance • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionWyeth Campground was a Civilian Conservation Corp and Conscientious Objector’s camp in the 1930’s and 40’s. It is set in a forest of Douglas-fir and maples and is nestled at the foothills of the gorge. There are many trails and other recreation opportunities in the local area. There are 13 individual sites, 3 group sites, one overflow area and a trailhead. Host Duties: The host would provide basic maintenance and information services. Duties include mowing and weed eating on about 1 acre of lawn, cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage, blowing off paved areas, stocking fee envelopes at the campground and trailhead, informing guests of local opportunities and contacting law enforcement as needed. Water, electric, sewer, limited TV reception, and propane are provided, as well as a daily subsistence reimbursement. Area Description: The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area protects the spectacular canyon where the Columbia River cuts through the Cascade Mountains – with cliffs and overlooks of Washington to the north and Oregon’s mountains and waterfalls to the south. The Gorge is unique in its natural and cultural history, as well as its designation as a National Scenic Area.
