Volunteer Activities• Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionEnjoy the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area (NRA) and help greet visitors at our headquarters. In the mountains of southwest Virginia. The Pat Jennings Visitor Center is located in a peaceful mountain setting adjacent to the Appalachian Trail. Many activities are available in the area including hiking, camping, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, sight-seeing, bird watching, trout fishing, and swimming. There are 3 rental cabins and 11 campgrounds, 4 of which are for horseback riders. There are over 400 miles of trails in the area, including 60 miles of the Appalachian Trail, 18 miles of the Virginia Creeper Trail, and 67 miles of the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail. Over one million visitor come to the Mount Rogers NRA every year. Volunteers are needed for weekday, weekend, and holiday staffing for 6 to 8 hours per day. Duties include greeting visitors, selling maps and interpretive materials, answering the phone, and light housekeeping. Camping with electric, water, and sewer hookups are available. A minimum 2-month commitment is requested but will accept shorter term. Please call for more information on this great opportunity!
