Mount Rogers National Recreation Area is seeking energetic and enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the visitor center services operation at the Green Cove Visitor Center on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Would you enjoy greeting and helping visitors from around the world have a wonderful experience on the Mount Rogers NRA? Volunteers will provide friendly and professional assistance, answer questions accurately and promptly, share relevant information, and conduct sales for the concessionaire .

The Mount Rogers National Recreation Area offers unique recreation opportunities in a more than 5,000 ft. high area with large rock formations, mountain balds, and spruce-fir forests. Within Mount Rogers, there are four wilderness areas, 500 miles of trails, eleven campgrounds, three rental cabins. Beautiful scenic roads, such as the Mount Rogers Scenic Byway, the road to Whitetop Mountain, and Big Walker Mountain Scenic Byway offers multiple viewing destinations. Mt. Rogers is home to 60 miles of Appalachian Trail and 18 miles of the Virginia Creeper Trail. Motorcyclists and cyclists can enjoy the beautiful Iron Mountain Trail. Horseback-riders can enjoy the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail, one of the marque saddle trails in the region. In addition, visitors to Mount Rogers have the opportunity to go hunting, fishing, canoeing, bird watching, wading, cross country skiing, and viewing wildlife.

Whitetop Station is a great starting point for an exciting bike ride down the Virginia Creeper Trail. Whitetop Station is a visitor center that shares the story of the local train history and mountain community through displays of historic photos and memorabilia. The station is positioned on a stretch of track between Abingdon, Virginia and West Jefferson, North Carolina. The train and the line, became known as the Virginia Creeper because of its slow speed going up and over the mountains. The US Forest Service partners with the Friends of Mount Rogers, a non-profit organization that promotes the appreciation and enjoyment of the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. This position is responsible for the successful daily operations of the visitor center.
