DESCRIPTION:

Philpott Lake is seeking individuals or couples to fill one Campground Host position for Horseshoe Point Park for the 2023 recreation season from May 1 to September 30.

Philpott Lake is seeking individuals or couples to fill one Campground Host position for Horseshoe Point Park for the 2023 recreation season from May 1 to September 30. Hosts must provide their own RV/Travel Trailer and reside on a designated campsite inside their assigned campground the days that they are on duty. Campsite amenities include water, electric, and sewer. Laundry facilities are located at Bowen’s Creek Volunteer Village.

 

Campground Hosts will provide host services to guests. Hosts are expected to stay on-site as much as possible. Hosts will be required to work a 3-day on, 4-day off schedule rotation with contract gate attendant. Hosts will be required to occupy the gatehouse from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. but be available in the park for assisting guests as needed. See duties in DUTIES section.

 

DUTIES
When scheduled or on duty, hosts will:

1. Wear issued volunteer clothing.

2. Answer visitor questions regarding recreation opportunities.

3. Explain reservation procedures to campers.

4. Monitor the firewood sheds and report low inventory to the provider of services.

5. Perform basic diagnosis and maintenance of issues with amenities (water, electric, plumbing, etc).

6. Inform visitors of park rules, regulations, and policies.

7. Collect comment cards and surveys.

8. Relay complaints, compliance issues, overcrowding, and maintenance actions to Park Ranger staff.

9. Assist campers with contacting local emergency services.

10. Print Daily Arrival Reports and post them in the gatehouse.

11. Check campers in and out in Recreation One Stop.

12. Assist in routine maintenance of fee machines.

13. Be available to assist visitors/campers at all hours while on duty.

 

Hosts will work approximately 32 hours per week (32 hours for an individual, 32 shared hours for couples).

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to sit or stand for significant periods of time.
Friendly, cheerful, organized, and professional manner.
Basic administrative skills.
Desire to meet and interact with people from varied backgrounds.
Appearance should be neat and reflect positively on the Corps.
Ability to remain calm in busy situations.
Visually able to spot safety hazards and take prompt appropriate action to correct in accordance with training provided.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Hosts will work both independently and with USACE staff, volunteers, and contractors. Work will be primarily outdoors and will involve frequent interactions with adults and children.

 

The lake is located within a 15–20-minute drive of restaurants, grocery stores, retail stores, auto and RV repair shops, entertainment venues, and medical facilities. Average high temperatures range from low 70’s to high 80’s with average low temperatures ranging from low 50’s to high 60’s during May to September.
