ADDRESS: Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area; 902 Wasco Avenue, Suite 200; Hood River, Oregon 97031
DEPT: Forest Service
DATES: 4/28/2023 – 10/4/2023
DESCRIPTION:
Campground host opportunity for Wyeth Campground in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area for the Summer of 2023.
The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is looking for an enthusiastic couple to perform the duties of Campground Host at Wyeth Campground for 2023! This opportunity is in the Columbia River Gorge, near the community of Cascade Locks, Oregon and the many recreational opportunities located nearby. The campground is located near Interstate 84 and contains 13 individual sites and 3 group sites. The campground is located in a forested setting and provides easy access to the Columbia River Historic Highway Trail (a paved walking and biking path) and the Wyeth/Gorton Creek Hiking Trail. Reservations are accepted for 11 of the campground’s sites, as well as all three of the group sites. Two campsites are available on a first come-first served basis.
The duties and responsibilities of this opportunity are as follows: Ensure that users of the site have reservations and only occupy their designated site during their assigned reservation period, educate regarding rules and regulations of the site (quiet hours, occupant limit, etc.), report serious violations of regulations to the Forest Service Point of Contact or Law Enforcement as warranted, clean and maintain restrooms, fire rings, and grounds upon check-out of reservations, ensure sites are clean for incoming reservation groups, keep roads and driveways clear, and mow a large grassy area in the campground as needed. As this opportunity requires extensive public interaction, a person or couple who has an affinity for public engagement is needed. Past campground host experience is helpful, but not required. Training will be provided by the Forest Service. Electric, water and sewer hookups are provided as well as reimbursement for official travel and propane. Host receives $16 per day for living reimbursements. This site is near train tracks and Interstate 84, so train and highway noise can be heard from the campground. Dates would be April 28th – Oct 4th, 2023. Actual camping season is May 1st – Sept. 30th, 2023. Ideally, host would arrive a few days before May 1st and stay a few days after Sept. 30th to help with campground and facility preparation and shutdown.
