5003 Hallett Circle
Cape Charles, Virginia 23310

DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service

DATES: 4/3/2023 – 10/27/2023

DESCRIPTION:

This position is located at the Eastern Shore of Virginia NWR, which is approximately 10 miles south of Cape Charles, VA. If you enjoy the natural beauty of the shore, this is the area for you! Virginia Beach is a short drive away across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. For more information about the refuge please visit https://www.fws.gov/refuge/eastern-shore-virginia

The refuge is seeking an individual or couple that can assist with maintenance and visitor services duties. The refuge manages the Wise Point Boat Ramp and requires a steward to orient and answer visitor questions, check parking passes, and direct traffic should the boat ramp need to close due to reaching parking capacity. Maintenance needs include general landscaping such as mowing, weed whacking, and pollinator garden maintenance. Additional opportunities are available to help staff the Visitor Center and greet visitors.

RV/trailer utility hook-ups for electric (30 and 50 amp), water, and sewage are available. No propane. Laundry is available in a building adjacent to the trailer pads. WiFi is not available, but cell coverage is decent (Verizon is the best on the Eastern Shore). Hosting requires a minimum of 24 hours/week volunteering.
