Job Description
Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Park Host Volunteer at John William Helton-San Antonio River Nature Park. Below you will find the description of the Park Host responsibilities and benefits:
Primary Responsibilities:
· Check-in overnight campers, check campsites for use/ availability daily.
· Greet and assist visitors, answer questions and explain regulations which apply to them. Distribute maps, copies of park rules and regulations.
· May assist campers in locating a campsite, be familiar with local points of interest and the location of services
· Keep a written report of complaints and criticism of park facilities, report situations that could affect the health and safety of visitors, and report any maintenance items which need immediate attention. May maintain other written records as requested by the Park Foreman.
· Assisting with park evacuation during emergency events.
· Managing gates at park entrances.
Other Potential Assignments:
· Will perform light maintenance work around the campground such as litter pickup, cleaning and stocking of restrooms and showers, provide information to park staff on potential problems, and disseminate information to campers.
· Clean campsites by performing minor maintenance tasks such as washing tables, cleaning out fire rings, picking up litter, reporting any damage to your supervisor.
· Emptying of trash and recyclable containers.
· Each site must be cleaned after every camper checks out and before another checks in.
· Sweep cobwebs from buildings.
· Keep track of occupied and vacant campsites .
· Inform incoming campers where family or friends are located.
Professional Expectations:
· Host must set an example by being a model camper practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around their assigned site and by observing all rules and regulations.
· Host is expected to work weekends and all holidays during their term.
· Serve as liaison between park users & park staff.
· Host shall inform park guests of rules but not attempt to discipline or apprehend any park violators. Host will report all disturbances to park staff and local law enforcement if necessary.
Working Conditions:
· Work is mostly outside in hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions. Walking or bicycling is required. Must reside in campground at one of the RV designated spaces.
· Use of SARA vehicles to carry out duties
Benefits:
· The use of an RV site with water, sewer, and a 50 amp electrical service at no charge for the duration of the term of service.
· Park Hosts will be issued three shirts and one hat to be worn while on duty
· Beautiful access to the San Antonio River, and less than a 30 minute drive from the City of San Antonio, TX.
Items Provided by Hosts:
· Mobile camping unit. (RV or trailer)
Skills required:
· Ability to get along well with people.
· Ability to remain calm and friendly with visitors.
· Ability to physically make rounds through the camping area.
· Ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
· Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have an insurable driving record.
Time Commitment:
· At least 25 hours of service time per week. Friday- Sunday- 4 to 5 hours per day. Remaining hours dispersed during other days of the week, Parks Hosts must be available on weekends.
Support and Training Provided:
· Supported by Park Foreman or their designee. Trained in campground registration procedures, rules and regulations, and host responsibilities.
