Volunteer Activities• Construction/Maintenance • Conservation Education • Research Library • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information • Fish/Wildlife • General Assistance • Weed/Invasive Species Control DescriptionQuivira National Wildlife Refuge is seeking energetic volunteers to staff the Visitor Center and provide excellent customer service to our visitors. A minimum of one month is required, with 20 hours/week. Primary duties include greeting visitors, providing Refuge and local information, handling phones and radio communications, distributing brochures, selling federal passes, and selling and stocking store sales items. Duties may also include assisting with environmental education and interpretation programs and operating audio/visual equipment. The Refuge has free RV pads with hook-ups for electric, water, and septic. Schedules vary depending on volunteer and Refuge needs, but volunteer duty time will fall within the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Weekend availability is recommended. Other duties, inside or outside (trail maintenance, kiosk upkeep, exotic and nuisance plant control) are available. We especially look for independent-thinking volunteers with backgrounds as educators or naturalists. Skills in birding, photography, or maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, landscaping) are especially helpful. Opportunities are available year round. Training and at-work transportation is provided.
