DESCRIPTION:
This seasonal volunteer will serve as a campground host in the country’s deepest canyon at Pittsburg Campground in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Hosts are welcoming, outdoor oriented, self-reliant individuals who are eager to share knowledge of the river corridor as well as help with the upkeep of the campground.
Pittsburg Campground overlooks the Wild and Scenic Snake River and is located on a terrace above the Pittsburg Landing Boat Launch in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. This large facility has 28 tent/trailer sites with shade shelters and picnic benches that may accommodate large RVs and trailers with accessible parking and vaulted toilets and paved roads. With access to the Snake River for fishing, boating, historic interpretation, and exploring and hiking, the facility is popular throughout the year.
This opportunity is available from April through October. A minimum of a 4-week commitment within this timeframe is required; preference will be given to longer-term applicants.
The host site has access to potable water, vaulted toilets, and will be provided with propane and generator fuel. There is an RV dump site located within the campgrounds.
Due to the remoteness of this campground, the applicant must be self-reliant in order to be successful.
Hosts will assist USFS with campground and facilities maintenance, clean and restock restrooms, and engage with visitors in the campground and boat ramp.
Looking for Individuals that are eager to communicate effectively with a variety of visitors; take pride in the upkeep of the campground and facilities; have general maintenance and repair abilities.

This campground is remote; 55 minutes from White Bird, ID (15 miles) and 1.5 hours from Riggins (45 miles). Summer temperatures can reach over 100 F; therefore, air conditioning is strongly recommended. The nearest services are in White Bird. Forest Service personnel will be on site regularly.
