Job Description

In cooperation with the USDA Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU), the Great Basin Institute is recruiting volunteers for the 2024 season at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. Volunteers may be Tahoe locals, or those residing out-of-town with their own RV access. In exchange for volunteer service, RVers receive a free campsite for the duration of their contract.

RV volunteer positions operate on 10-week sessions throughout the year. The 2024 session schedule is as follows:
Spring Session: May 6 – July 14
Summer Session: July 15 – Sept. 22
*Fall Session: Sept. 23 – Nov. 2

*This is 6-week time commitment due to high visitation during the fall, and the changing seasons. October is an exciting time, as thousands of Kokanee salmon return to their birthplace to spawn each year. Volunteer assistance during this time is especially needed.

Taylor Creek Visitor Center volunteer duties include:

·   Answering walk-up visitors’ questions

·   Trail roving

·   Dispensing free information (maps, guides)

·   Facility maintenance

·   Tabling events

·   Interpretative program assistance

·   Retail operations & inventory

Local volunteers are asked to commit to one shift per week, based on the volunteer’s availability. RV volunteers must serve a minimum of 28 hours/week to maintain their complimentary campsite. While volunteer positions are unpaid, the Great Basin Institute offers a rewards and appreciation program for all eligible volunteers. This is an excellent opportunity to live and work in Lake Tahoe, as an average RV campsite costs more than $50/night.
