DESCRIPTION:
Gulf Islands National Seashore is seeking to fill one (1) maintenance site host position at Johnson Beach (Perdido Key).
Maintenance site hosts work 32 hours per week, per person from April 1 – July 31, 2023. Site host duties are custodial in nature, and include: opening and closing restrooms, cleaning restrooms, cleaning walkways and pavilions, including sand removals with shovels and blowers, and picking up trash. Site hosts will not be required to handle any law enforcement issues. All violations will be reported to the local dispatch and law enforcement rangers will be contacted.
Park staff will provide training and support in duties. Hosts perform duties independently without direct supervision. Staff will make regular contact to provide support, heavy maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain communication with park staff and relay issues and deficiencies, especially safety concerns, in a timely manner.
- Open and close restrooms as directed by park staff.
- Pick up trash along roadway, parking lot shoulders, and around picnic shelters.
- Monitor dumpster pickups by contactor.
- Clean restrooms, which include, but is not limited to: restocking paper towels and toilet paper dispensers, sweeping and mopping floors, disinfecting toilets and urinals, cleaning sinks and counter tops.
- Act as a public liaison by answering guest inquiries, assisting with vehicle breakdowns, or vehicles stuck in sand
- Light mowing and trimming
- Cleaning and emptying charcoal grills
- Walkway and pavilion cleaning, including sand removal
- Locate late visitors near dusk and notify them that the park is closing and the gate will be locked for the night
- Friendly and outgoing personality with good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform custodial duties in outdoor conditions.
- Interact with a diversity of visitors while maintaining a positive, helpful, and non-confrontational attitude.
- Ability to serve independently without direct supervision.
- Abel to lift and operate a weed eater, backpack blower, and able to push a lawn mower.
