DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer Campground Hosts are an integral part of the Forest Recreation program and are critical in achieving the Forest Service mission of “Caring for the Land and Serving the People.” As such, we are seeking individuals who can represent the Flathead National Forest in a professional and courteous manner.
As a Campground Host, you will often be the first Forest representative the visiting public encounters and the first person they will consider for information regarding the area and their National Forest. Volunteer Campground Hosts are an integral part of the Forest recreation program and are critical in achieving the Forest Service mission of “Caring for the Land and Serving the People.” As such, we are seeking individuals who can represent the Flathead National Forest in a professional and courteous manner.
Campground Hosts are expected to be available from Memorial Day (05/29/2023) to Labor Day (09/04/2023) at a minimum. Longer season negotiable. Season is subject to weather and occupancy. Hosts are requested to be available for public interaction the majority of the day and expected to make full campground rounds in the morning and evening. Hosts are not expected to write citations or to participate in law enforcement activities.
RV spot, electrical and sewage hookups, and a small storage shed are provided at Ashley Lake North Campground. RV not provided, you must have your own RV. Must have valid drivers license and your own vehicle for daily duties, mileage reimbursement available for official duties. Additional reimbursement options available. No reliable cell phone coverage in the area. Closest town is 15 minutes away in Kila, MT- which is a gas station. Closest grocery store is 30 minutes away in Kalispell, MT. Flathead Lake is only one hour away and Glacier National Park is about two hours away.
Volunteer hosts who complete a full season in good standing will receive an Interagency Volunteer Pass, valid 12 months from the date of issue.
Ashley Lake Recreation Area includes:
· Ashley Lake North Campground: 6 sites first come first served, one toilet, no day use
· Ashley Lake Boat Launch and Day Use: boat ramp, toilet, beach area, picnic areas
· Ashley Lake South Campground: 2 sites first come first served, one toilet, day use areas, small watercraft launch
· Ashley Lake Day Use: around ten dispersed sites along the lake, no facilities, no fires
· All sites have a 5 day stay limit, no fees
- Welcoming visitors and providing appropriate Forest information
- Performing bathroom maintenance (three toilets) and light landscape work
- Cleaning fire rings and collecting trash left at sites; no trash services provided
- Reporting emergencies and providing District Recreation staff and Law Enforcement with pertinent daily information
- Setting a positive camping example for other forest visitors, keeping a clean, presentable and welcoming campsite and encouraging common courtesy throughout the campground
Excellent volunteer candidates for these positions will have the following strengths:
- Outgoing personality with strong verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform light maintenance work in outdoor conditions
- Ability to maintain daily written logs
- Ability to interact with diverse visitors while maintaining a positive, helpful and non-confrontational attitude
Requirements of the opportunity
- Pass a minimal background check and possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Provide your own personal RV accommodations, maintained to be welcoming and approachable by the public
