CAMPGROUND: Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

RV INFORMATION: There are 2 beautiful lake side locations with water, sewage and electric hook ups, 30 and 50 amps,located on the refuge, 20 miles from town and the visitor center. Two other RV locations are in town, at the Red Wolf Education Center located about 2 miles from the visitor center.

Volunteer Activities• Construction/Maintenance • Conservation Education • Office/Clerical • Trail/Campground Maintenance • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information • Fish/Wildlife • General Assistance • Weed/Invasive Species Control Photo Courtesy of FWS Description We are currently recruiting Resident Volunteers for April through December 2020, to assist in our beautiful Visitor Center / Gift Shop and at our Red Wolf Center. Volunteers may be trained to assist with educational programs and with light refuge maintenance. A three month minimum commitment is prefered, but a shorter time is negotiable and we will accept longer if available. Two RV sites are located by beautiful Lake Phelps, in a wooded, farmland area; great for fishing and paddling. The refuge is the home of black bears, raptors, and in winter thousands of migrating birds. This RV site is about 20 miles from Columbia NC, where our Visitor Center and refuge headquarters are located. . We now have two additional RV sites located at our Red Wolf Health and Education Center, just a couple of miles from the refuge visitor center in Columbia, so we have another location to choose from. Visitor Center duties include: answering phones, greeting and directing visitors, retail gift shop sales, selling hunt permits in winter, and answering questions about the refuge. Volunteers can also be trained to assist with educational programs.
