Job Description
FWC is currently seeking a volunteer or volunteer couple to work at the Herky Huffman/ Bull Creek Wildlife Management Area check station in Saint Cloud, Florida for the 2023-2024 hunting season, which runs from mid-September 2023 – April 2024. Hunting season includes weekends and some holidays. Work involves checking hunters in and out of the wildlife management area (WMA), collecting biological data from harvested game animals (all training provided), removing jawbones from harvested deer, and general groundskeeping of the check station area. The required work is generally 32 hours per week, either two 16-hour shifts, or split between several days. Volunteers work in exchange for full RV hookups including water, electric, and septic. The WMA is in a remote location, approximately 30 minutes from a substantial town, and cell phone service can be spotty depending on the provider. No internet is provided, but volunteers are welcome to have it installed at their own expense. Preference will be given to volunteers who wish to work the entire hunting season, but there may also be an opportunity to have volunteers work a few months at a time, as long as the entire time slot is filled. If interested or to request more information, please email melanie.mancuso@myfwc.com or call the office at 407-498-0991.
