May 1 – July 31, 2023 (3 months, site: 50ftx24ft, 35/50 electric, water, and sewer)
Day-Use Host duties include (but are not limited to)
Cleaning and sanitizing pavilion restrooms, emptying all trash receptacles, ensuring roadways are free of debris and litter, landscaping activities, prepping and cleaning group camps, and answering all visitors inquiries in a polite and tactful manner.
Volunteers are generally scheduled on a rotating shift, working 3-4 days with the following 3-4 days off.
Position Benefits
In exchange for a minimum of 20 working hours per week per site you can enjoy your own dedicated campsite, with water, sewer, and electric hookup, for free! Access to laundry and bath facilities are an additional perk of becoming a volunteer at Suwannee River. All sites can accommodate up to a 50ft motorhome, camping trailer, or 5th wheel trailer*. While staying with us you will be invited to park gatherings like potlucks, celebrations, holiday parties, and more.
*On your volunteer profile, please indicate type and size of camping unit you own and intend to use while volunteering.
On your non-scheduled days you will have the opportunity to explore this beautiful park and the surrounding areas. You will also have access to enter our sister park, Madison Blue Spring, for free. This crystal clear, first-magnitude spring is a popular spot for swimming and cave diving.
After the completion of your first 50 hours with the Florida Park Services, you will receive a “6 Free Entrances” pass for you and a group to visit any Florida State Park. Every 250 hours completed thereafter results in a free “Volunteer Annual Park Pass” for you and a group to visit any Florida State Park!
Trainings/Requirements
– Valid driver’s license
– Annual Trainings to be completed through the volunteer portal:
– Volunteer Agreement
– DEP Combo Training
– Bloodborne Pathogens
– ADA
– Code of Ethics
– ATV/UTV/LSV training (done in park)
– Other position specific trainings possible (chainsaw use, cash register operations, etc.)
Essential Eligibility Criteria
Essential eligibility criteria refer to the basic essential skills and abilities necessary for someone to safely participate in the host duties.
– ability to clean restrooms
– ability to traverse approximately 3-10 steps
– moderate to heavy lifting (mop bucket, ash bucket, fallen tree limbs, trash bags, firewood, etc.)
– ability to bend and twist while working
– ability to retrieve items from ground height
– ability to extend arms above head while holding/utilizing tools
– ability to communicate politely and effectively with others
– ability to effectively communicate park, visitor, and volunteer needs to staff in a prompt and efficient manner
– ability to follow park protection requirements and set an example for visitors
