OVERVIEW:
Koreshan State Park offers a window into the lives of a unique and interesting pioneer group that made it’s home on the banks of the Estero River. Come join our team in desirable South Florida to assist in operating & maintaining our historic Fairbanks Morse 2 cylinder 80 HP 1929 Diesel Engine. Individuals who can also interpret it’s operation and ties to Koreshan History are preferred. This position may also include maintenance tasks throughout the park.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Read and speak English well; Good communication skills with visitors and co-workers; Positive, helpful, and friendly attitude; Always have a neat, professional appearance; Deal with visitor inquiries in a tactful, efficient, and courteous manner; Ability to withstand exposure to the outdoor elements; Stand and/or sitting for long periods; Moderate to heavy lifting and bending; Operate radio equipment; Drive state vehicles in a safe and appropriate manner; Maintain a valid Drivers License.
Knowledge or understanding of maintenance and/or operation of 1915-1920s Fairbanks Morse Model Z 1 cylinder 6 HP and Fairbanks Morse 2 cylinder 80 HP 1929 Diesel Engine preferred.
Machinist or Mechanic experience
Must pass state and National sex offender checks
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 20 hours per site required in exchange for a RV site. Most hours will be on the weekends and holidays when Visitor attendance is highest. Most shifts are 5 hours but you could be asked to work longer or participate in special events or tours.
In addition to working with the Historic equipment, you will also be assisting with other maintenance tasks at the shop. This can include but is not limited to small engine repair, golf cart maintenance, tractor maintenance and repair, truck maintenance and repairs, UTV/ATV maintenance and repairs. Days scheduled will be Wed through Sat if volunteering the full 20 hours. This volunteering with a significant other may work less.
TRAINING/PRE-REQUISITS:
Machinist or Mechanic skills and experience
Ongoing learning about Koreshan History and the engines and equipment in the Historic Industrial Area
Completion of online required annual training and agreements

Upon completion of 250 hours, you will receive a special volunteer annual pass for you and your family to any Florida State Park (*request passes from the Volunteer Manager. Some restrictions apply)
Join us in park staff gatherings (i.e., potlucks, celebrations, holiday parties, etc.) and the annual district Volunteer Appreciation gathering

RV site with water, electric (30 and/or 50 amp) and possibly sewer as well as use of our Volunteer Village amenities
