ADDRESS: Rio Grande National Forest; Colorado 81144

DEPT: Forest Service

DESCRIPTION:

Join us as a volunteer campground host on the Saguache Ranger District a the North Crestone Campground!

At the base of the majestic Sangre de Cristo mountains, scenic North Crestone Creek Campground stretches 0.7 miles up a mountain along North Crestone Creek. It is rustic with camping sites nestled among aspen, juniper, fir, and other riparian-loving trees. Because the sites are so far apart, each site has a feeling of secluded wilderness camping with few of the inconveniences. The campground is, however, conveniently located near a public golf course and the interesting town of Crestone.

Elevation is 8,300 feet.

This campground is open from approximately Memorial Day weekend through the end of October. The overnight camping fee is $10.00; the host is provided a campsite. This campground has 13 campsites (one is pull-through) with tables and fireplace grates, and there is one vault toilet. Trash service is provided. There is no water. There is also no cell phone service. Host’s RV must be self-contained; there are no hook ups in the campground.

The campground is heavily used and is busiest from June to September. The campground is accessible and is open to tent camping and trailer camping. Fires are only allowed in designated fire rings. The closest town is Crestone, Colorado.

Host duties: Have fun, provide visitor contacts; monitor sign board for damaged or missing signs; restock and tidy bathrooms; rake and clean campsites; empty out fire rings as needed; pick up trash; communicate needs such as vault pumping or dumpster service; report by radio to office the number of sites available each day.
