DESCRIPTION:

The Tucson Field Office is seeking motivated and enthusiastic site host volunteer at the Empire Ranch.

Volunteer position is requested for the Summer 2023 (April – September).

The Tucson Field Office is seeking a volunteer for the summer to help support the daily operations of the Empire Ranch. The Empire Ranch is located in the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area and is located 45 minutes southeast of Tucson, AZ. The position would involve greeting visitors to the Ranch, providing visitors information about the National Conservation Area, and assist with upkeeping the grounds of the Ranch. The site host will have interaction with BLM staff and the BLM partnership, the Empire Ranch Foundation.

The Las Cienegas National Conservation Area is ranges in elevation between 4,300 feet and 4,500 feet. Summer day time temperatures are in the 90s and nighttime temperatures are in the upper 60s. Monsoon rains occur between mid June until the end of September and rains can lower the temperatures in the area at least 20 degrees. The area consists of grassland, mesquite, and cottonwood trees in the creeks.

The volunteer position calls for at least 25 hours a week and the volunteer schedule can be negotiated between the BLM volunteer supervisor and the volunteer. The site can accommodate a mid-size RV and water, septic, and electric hookups are at the site.
