Gulf Islands National Seashore is seeking to fill one (1) campground host positions at the Fort Pickens Campground for May – July 2023.
Gulf Islands National Seashore is seeking to fill one (1) campground hosts at the Fort Pickens Campground. Fort Pickens Campground is located on a barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Pensacola Bay, a short distance south of Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Campground hosts work 32 hours per week, per person from May 1 – July 31, 2023. Host duties include greeting and assisting visitors by answering questions, explaining regulations, assisting guests with locating their campsite, and performing light maintenance and clean up around the campground. Hosts must be friendly, outgoing, and willing to seek guests out. Hosts will not be required to handle any law enforcement issues. All violations to the local dispatch and law enforcement rangers will be contacted.
Park staff will provide training and support for assigned duties. Hosts perform duties independently without direct supervision. Staff will make regular contact to provide support, heavy maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
An RV pad with hookups will be provided. Due to the size of the RV pad, all equipment (including RV and tow vehicle) must be 45 feet in length or less.
- Greeting and assisting campers with a friendly and helpful attitude. Answer questions, explain regulations with apply to them to gain compliance, and assist guests in locating their campsite
- Performing light maintenance work around the campground such as litter pickup, cleaning, and cleaning restrooms
- Clean restrooms, which include, but are not limited to restocking paper towels and toilet paper dispensers, sweeping and mopping floors, disinfecting toilets and urinals, and cleaning sinks and countertops.
- Light mowing and trimming
- Keeping park staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsite facilities, or maintenance needs
- Reporting any law enforcement issues to dispatch
- Maintaining a neat, clean, and organized host site as an example to visitors
- Representing Gulf Islands National Seashore and the National Park Service professionally and courteously
- Friendly and outgoing personality with good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform light maintenance in outdoor conditions
- Interact with a diversity of visitors while maintaining a positive, helpful, and non-confrontational attitude
- Ability to serve independently without direct supervision
- Must possess a valid drivers license
- Able to lift and operate a weed trimmer and push a lawn mower
- Total equipment length (including RV and tow vehicle) must be 45 feet in length or less.
