DEPT: National Park Service

DATES: 5/21/2023 – 8/31/2023

DESCRIPTION:

Work in interpretation and visitor services for Charles Pinckney NHS Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie NHP during our fast-paced summer season!

The Charleston-area National Park Service units (Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historic Park, Charles Pinckney National Historic Site) are seeking a VIP for our summer season. Full RV-hookup is provided on-site at Charles Pinckney NHS, located in Mount Pleasant SC, for volunteers who work 4 days/ 32 hours per week.

Volunteers are expected to work for all three NPS sites while staying at the park- a schedule will be provided which directs the volunteer to their duty station each day. A vehicle separate from the RV is mandatory for transportation to duty stations, located approximately 25 minutes away from where the RV-hookup is located.

This position will run during the parks’ busiest season. Average visitation can be over 2,000 people per day at some sites. The Charleston-area experiences high heat and humidity during the summer months. This is a fast-paced position that will best fit an individual with high energy and an outgoing personality. Walking on historic grounds, forts, and trails may be a strain for those with mobility difficulties. The VIP is expected to work with visitors, staff, rangers, interns, and other volunteers in a friendly and positive manner.

RV-VIP’s are allowed a maximum of four months stay at the Charleston-area NPS sites. All RV volunteers must be off property for hurricane seasons (approximately late August through October). A washer and dryer for laundry is provided. Keys will be issued for entering park grounds.

Please provide professional references when applying.
