St. Andrews State Park Resident Volunteer Campground Host Position Description:
Our park is known for it’s sugar white sands, crystal clear emerald green water, and maritime hammock that provide habitat for abundant wildlife.
Position Title: Campground Host
Residency period: June – August 2023
Time Commitment: 20 hours per week per campsite
The Campground Hosts position is the most important one for our park to keep filled with volunteers, as their presence in the campground is essential to us.
Duties/Responsibilities (Including 5% other duties as assigned):
Cleaning park buildings, restrooms, and camp ground bathhouse facilities on a daily basis; Maintaining cleanliness of park grounds including picking up litter, emptying trash cans, and removing debris from road shoulders and all use areas; Cleaning campsites including trimming vegetation and emptying ash and litter from fire rings; blowing off roads, parking lots, and sidewalks; Making repairs to facilities and/or reporting all maintenance issues; Monitoring all areas for staff and public safety; Answering questions from park visitors; Explaining park rules and policies in a friendly and professional manner to campers and visitors in violation; Other duties as assigned
Benefits to Volunteer:
Volunteers will be provided with a T-shirt and a name tag; Upon completion of 50 hours, volunteers will receive an annual family pass for volunteer and family at the park where the hours were worked and 6 free entrance passes to any other state park; Upon completion of 250 hours, volunteers will receive a special volunteer annual pass for all Florida State Parks (request all passes from the Volunteer Coordinator); Inclusion in all park staff gatherings (pot lucks, celebrations, holiday parties, etc.); Invitation to district Volunteer Appreciation gatherings
Position Goal/Outcome Desired:
To become familiar with the daily operations and maintenance of the park; Gain a better understanding and appreciation of what the park- and the Florida Park Service as a whole- has to offer; Gain a sense of fulfillment from the volunteer experience; Gain a sense of appreciation for the hours contributed supporting the Florida Park Service’s Mission Statement: To provide resource-based recreation while preserving, interpreting, and restoring natural and cultural resources.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
Be organized and able to multi-task; Possess a professional and friendly personality; Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; Ability to learn park policies and procedures; Must be a dependable and punctual person; Ability to present a neat and professional appearance; Ability to stand for long periods at a time; Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions; Ability to learn the Florida Park Service’s Operations Manual (OM).
Special Requirements:
Resident volunteers are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. Non-resident volunteers have no minimum hours required. Resident campground volunteers will have a sign on site identifying them as Camp Hosts. Camp Hosts are available to answer questions, provide information about the park, and to monitor the campground for violations of park rules. It is important for a volunteer in this role to become familiar with the policies of Florida State Parks.
Training/Pre-Requisites:
Must have a current Volunteer Application on file (renewed annually)
Must have a current Volunteer Agreement on file (renewed annually)
Must provide a valid form of identification
Must pass a State and Federal sexual predator/offender check
