DESCRIPTION:

Campground host at the Alkali Creek Campground and Alkali Creek Horse Camp at the Fort Meade Recreation Area.

We are looking for friendly, customer-service focused campground hosts for our beautiful Fort Meade Recreation Area near Sturgis, SD. The Fort Meade Recreation Area has two expanded amenity campgrounds that include tent camping, group picnic shelters, and horse use campsites. The campground is open from May 15 to October 1, annually. Our busy season runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

 

What you need to know:

  • We ask that you commit to being with us from the beginning of June through Labor Day but preferably through the end of September.
  • You will work about five days per week.
  • The number of hours worked daily varies, but 4 hours per day is expected.
  • Your schedule would require that you work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • You must complete and pass a Federal Background Investigation with fingerprints.
  • You would serve as a friendly, professional, reliable, fair, and knowledgeable representative of the BLM and our campground.

The BLM will reimburse each volunteer $15 for each full shift worked.

 

DUTIES
  • Ensuring visitors comply with fee regulations
  • Educating visitors about campground regulations
  • Cleaning and stocking latrines
  • Cleaning fire pits and picking up litter
  • Ensuring that the campground environment is safe and free of hazards
  • Providing assistance in the security and maintenance of BLM facilities, equipment, and tools
  • Assisting visitors in checking in and out of campsites, and keep reservations updated
  • Work with BLM seasonal employees on various campground projects

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Volunteers must be able to perform light cleaning duties and operate a UTV (training will be provided). Volunteers must be friendly, patient, and be able to communicate effectively with visitors.
