Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Construction/Maintenance • Historical Preservation • Office/Clerical • Visitor Information • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionARROWHEAD LODGE VISITOR CENTER HOSTS Outgoing, self-motivated couple needed to share on-site visitor center and property management duties from late-May through Labor Day at a beautiful historic former lodge in the mountains of north central Colorado west of Fort Collins. DUTIES: Site host volunteers run the Visitor Center, perform housekeeping and groundskeeping tasks, and provide minor facility maintenance. Visitor Center duties include answering visitor questions, cash register and credit card sales, and ordering/inventory of books and maps. Janitorial work includes keeping one vault toilet, the visitor center and two interpretive cabins clean; changing light bulbs and other minor maintenenance; and grounds keeping tasks such as mowing the lawn. LOCATION: The Visitor Center is located in the beautiful Cache la Poudre canyon west of Fort Collins, Colorado at an elevation of 7400 feet. Access is via paved State Highway 14, a state Scenic and Historic Byway. The Cache la Poudre RIver is the only designated Wild and Scenic River in Colorado. Summer days are mild (upper 70s), and nights are cool. HISTORY: Hand built and used as a summer resort from the 1930s through early 1980s, this historic log Visitor Center and 13 associated cabins now hosts thousands of summer visitors from around the world. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Visitor Center and two interpretive cabins are open to the public for viewing. Visitation averages approximately 60 people a day, but varies widely from day to day. HOST AMENITIES such as groceries and medical facilties are one hour away in Fort Collins, Colorado, a city of 170,000 people. There is a phone landline at Arrowhead and DSL computer access is possible on a personal account. Cell reception is non-existant in the canyon at this location. There is a free wifi hotspot a mile down the road at the fire station. Satellite reception is good. Hosts MUST come with their own RV or camper. A free RV hookup (water, septic, 50-amp & 120 volt electric service) is included. ATTRACTIONS include trout fishing right across the street in the Poudre River, amazing wildlife viewing opportunities such as bighorn sheep and mule deer, and nearby hiking, bicycling, horse riding, fall hunting, and motorized recreation. This opportunity is for couples only: One person does maintenance and yard work; the other works in the Visitor Center. WORK SCHEDULE is 4 days on/3 days off, 9 am to 5 pm. Skills needed: Adaptable self-starters who are able to work independently of direct supervision (supervisor is in Fort Collins) Easy-going (will be co-hosting with another couple) In good physical condition for living and working at 7400 feet elevation.
