DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service
DATES: 11/1/2023 – 4/1/2024
DESCRIPTION:
The refuge is looking for 3-4 volunteers. Primary duties include greeting visitors, staffing the Visitor Center, answering phones/directing calls, light housekeeping, and responding to visitor inquiries. Other duties periodically include assisting with biological surveys and minor maintenance of facilities/grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
Cibola NWR was established in 1964. The 18,444 acre refuge was established to protect and recreate the marshes, backwaters, and meanders of the lower Colorado River that historically provided wintering grounds for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife. Cibola is one of three refuges (Cibola, Imperial, and Kofa NWRs) that make up the
Southwest Arizona National Wildlife Refuge Complex.
The refuge is looking for 3-4 volunteers to assist with a variety of opportunities. Primary duties include greeting visitors, staffing the Visitor Center, answering phones/directing calls, light housekeeping, and responding to visitor inquiries. Other duties include assisting with biological surveys and minor maintenance of facilities/grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
Applicants must be willing to assist with both Visitor Center/administrative duties as well as other duties to be considered. The work schedule is variable (three days per week and work days may vary) and applicants must be available to work weekends. Volunteers may also have opportunity to assist at Kofa and Imperial National Wildlife Refuges as well.
A valid driver’s license is required. Completion of a defensive driving course (training is provided) is required in order to operate government vehicle. A fingerprint background check is required in order to access non-public areas of the refuge.
In return for 24 hours per week per person, we will provide a full hookup RV site (30-50a, water and sewer hookup) at Cibola NWR. The refuge is seeking volunteers for approximately a five month stay (November 1 through May 31, with some flexibility on start/end dates).
Primary duties include greeting visitors, staffing the Visitor Center, answering phones/directing calls, light housekeeping, and responding to visitor inquiries. Other duties include assisting minor maintenance of facilities/grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
