Job Description
The US Army Corps of Engineers at Green River Lake is looking for an individual or a couple who are very friendly, people-oriented, and love to camp to help serve our team as Volunteer Visitor Center Host (s).
Dates and Hours: Now thru October 22, 2023, weekends only (Saturdays and Sundays), working 8-9 hours per day.
Incentives: A free campsite at Holmes Bend Campground (with water, electric and sewer hookups, picnic table, fire ring, lantern post) would be provided to the host for the duration of the recreation season.
Typical Duties would include: working in a Visitor Center environment, meet and greet visitors, answering phones, minor gardening duties, re-filling brochure racks, show short film about the lake, help feed and care for reptile/amphibian displays, fill bird feeders, assist rangers with interpretive programs, promote the Corps water safety initiative, assist with the recreational equipment rental and loner life jacket programs.
Requirements:
-Host must provide their own camper (must be in good repair and appearance)
-Ability to communicate effectively with the public
-Ability to maintain a set schedule and turn in progress report of duties performed
-Willingness to commit to a long term agreement
Qualifications: Needs to be comfortable in an office setting, talking with and interacting with all ages of visitors. May be asked to perform interpretive programs, needs to be comfortable with that. At times, conflict resolution skills may come into to play, dealing with difficult visitors. Previous volunteer or hosting experience is preferred but not required. Work Environment: This position requires the individual (s) to live in a campground environment but will work in a Visitor Center environment. It can be expected that USACE staff will regularly check-in with the individuals and a daily log will be filled out with the day’s accomplishments
