ADDRESS: Walnut Canyon National Monument
3 Walnut Canyon Road
Flagstaff, Arizona 86004

DEPT: National Park Service

DATES: 8/16/2023 – 11/30/2023

DESCRIPTION:

Walnut Canyon National Monument is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help with a variety of Visitor Services! Duties will include staffing a visitor center, providing outstanding information/orientation services, ringing up bookstore sales for nonprofit partner Western National Park Association (WNPA), and roving park trails providing informal interpretation and a friendly park presence. Training provided to set you up for success!

Timeframe of this opportunity is for a mid-to-late August start through November 2023 and there is some flexibility to modify start and end dates for mutual benefit. We had a RV couple long signed up for this slot but they very recently had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.

Volunteers will work 32 hours per week (four 8-hour shifts) with consistent three days off per week; if a couple is applying there is a possibility for each to work 24 hours per week (three 8-hour shifts) with consistent four days off per week.

An RV pad in Walnut Canyon’s housing complex is available with hook-ups (water, sewer, electric, laundry facility) provided. A room in onsite shared housing may be available.

Walnut Canyon is approximately 15 minutes drive time from downtown Flagstaff, a city of about 75,000 residents with all services available.

Note that park elevation and the Flagstaff area is approximately 7,000 feet above sea level and the park vegetation is primarily ponderosa pine forest.

Cell phone and internet service can be limited. Volunteers who arrive with a completed federal background check and ‘PIV card’ can access a phone and computer at the Visitor Center.
