Job Description

Caloosahatchee Regional Park Volunteer Position: Camp Host

 

Purpose:  To support Caloosahatchee Regional Park (CRP) and Lee County Parks & Recreation in our mission, vision, and strategic plans by providing assistance to staff and conducting basic operational duties within CRP.

Position Objective: The primary role of a Camp Host Volunteer is to provide park visitors with information and to assist park staff with keeping the campground, restrooms, and hiking trails accessible and clean during our seasonal (high visitation) months.  This is accomplished by encouraging compliance with the park rules and policies, performing tasks related to campground and trail maintenance as assigned, and acting as a contact when park staff is off duty or not available.  Additional Camp Host roles may be assigned to support park operations.

Selected applicants must pass a background check, complete a notarized Camp Host Agreement, and participate in a Volunteer Orientation and a Camp Host Orientation.  Camp Host Volunteers must fulfill a minimum of 20 work hours per week per person in exchange for a free RV site (includes electricity, water, and sewer hookups). Camp Hosts may park a suitable motorhome or travel trailer in good condition on-site, subject to approval by the site supervisor. Family groups with children under the age of 18 are subject to approval with Lee County Management.  Pets are prohibited on park property and cannot reside within the motorhome.

Essential Job Duties:  Duties include but are not limited to:

·         Represent Lee County Parks & Recreation in a positive professional manner at all times.

·         Confirm reservations, take on-site registration, collect revenue, assign campsites, and distribute parking passes.

·         Answer inquiries in person or by phone providing information on park services, rules, and policies.

·         Communicate potential or actual problems to park staff and when needed report emergencies to the proper authorities (Camp Hosts do not enforce park rules; however, they do educate visitors on park rules and policies).

·         Assist Park staff with preparing campsites for rental by picking up trash, cleaning out fire rings, cleaning out grills, and raking the site.

·         Assist park staff with cleaning the bathhouse toilets, sinks, and showers.

·         Assist Park staff with the collection of revenues.

·         Light pruning of hiking trails.

·         Assist park staff with paddle craft rentals by cleaning paddle craft, putting boats in the water, distributing safety gear, etc.

 

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

·         Knowledge of simple record keeping and basic arithmetic.

·         Ability to use basic office equipment such as phone, computer, printer, copier, and scanner.

·         Ability to read, understand, and apply policies about the use and operations of CRP.

·         Ability to work professionally and courteously with little to no supervision.

·         Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) effectively in English; bilingual abilities valued.

·         Ability to operate hand tools and small equipment safely.

·         Ability to lift 20 lbs.

Volunteer Requirements:

·         Must be over the age of 18 and physically able to carry out assigned duties.

·         Must have an approved volunteer application and successful completion of a criminal background check.

·         Must complete the notarized Camp Host Agreement.

·         Must have a suitable motorhome or travel trailer in good condition (subject to site supervisor approval).

 

Lee County Parks & Recreation Responsibilities:

·         Prepare and train volunteers through orientation, tour, and on-the-job training.

·         Organize and schedule volunteers in an efficient and timely manner.

·         Provide the tools necessary to complete assigned job duties.

·         Recognize, support, and evaluate volunteers as valued members of our team.

 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

·         Work 20 (minimum) to 25 (maximum) hours per week.

·         Work the schedule set by the park supervisor that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays in exchange for a campsite, water, sewer, and electrical hookups.

·         Provide own transportation for personal use and operate county-owned equipment during work hours.

·         Provide excellent customer service to park visitors.
