Volunteers at Buenos Aires NWR assist the visitor services, biology and maintenance departments. Work is often diverse and may span multiple departments. The refuge is remote and near the international border with Mexico. Our primary purpose is the recovery of the endangered masked bobwhite quail.
Winter season work includes maintaining primitive campsites for visitors, cleaning up trash from trails and campsites, cleaning bathrooms at trailheads, guiding hikes for visitors, maintaining kiosks and brochures, trimming and maintaining trails and roadsides, maintaining road numbers, helping clean and maintain structures and more. Maintenance specific duties may include small carpentry projects, landscaping, painting, and so forth. Visitor services duties may include helping to create an environmental education program, speaking with students and visitors and more. There may also be opportunity to assist biology with various field duties or assisting in the care of the captive masked bobwhite quail.
Volunteers are asked to commit to at least a three month time period, either from October to December or January through March. Volunteers can also commit to a six month timeframe, October through December. Alternative timeframes may be discussed. Each volunteer must complete 32 work hours weekly.

We have RV spots available with electricity and water. Additionally, a nearby trailer has a full kitchen and laundry services. Dogs are not allowed. Other small pets that are fully confined to your RV may be allowed.
