DEPT: Forest Service

DESCRIPTION:

Hiawatha National Forest Monocle Lake Volunteer Campground Host Opportunity

Do you enjoy camping? Do you enjoy talking with other campers? Would you like to be a valuable member of the team that takes care of Monocle Lake Campground in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula? Consider being a campground host for us!

A campground host is a volunteer who agrees to help in a National Forest campground.

  • A host’s job is to help other campers by answering questions, providing information about the local area, and acts as the “eyes and ears” for identifying problems when Forest Service employees are not present.
  • Hosts are also asked to clean and maintain the campground and facilities.
  • Campground hosts will receive training.
  • Hosts should bring their own tent, trailer, camper or motor home to stay in.
  • Campground hosts may also be eligible for modest reimbursements on their expenses.
  • Individuals or couples can be hosts. In some cases, it may be a family affair. Often, retired couples find it the ideal way to spend time in the summer.
  • Hosts need to be friendly, flexible, and responsible.
  • In exchange for assistance with greeting visitors, providing information, assuring that they know they need to pay camping or day use fees and keeping the campground and facilities in a clean condition, the Forest Service will provide the host(s) a free campsite with electricity and hookups.
  • The Hiawatha need hosts to provide quality, friendly service to our public.
  • Hosts with prior experience are preferred.

We are looking for hosts at Monocle Lake Campground from approximately August 28-October 7.
