DESCRIPTION:
Chickasaw National Recreation Area has an opening for volunteer Campground Hosts at Cold Springs Campground from May 1 – October 1. Due to its proximity to popular swimming areas, Cold Springs is an active, reservation-only, summer campground that needs lively and proactive hosts. Nearby Central Campground, consisting of ten groups sites, is also serviced by the Cold Springs Hosts. The ability to speak Spanish, although not required, is a selection factor. Experience with Recreation.gov is also preferable but not required. Due to workload, couples are best suited for this position.
This position requires strong customer service skills, as you will be speaking with many different types of recreation area visitors. Hosts must be able to communicate courteously while maintaining a professional image. Hosts must also be self-sufficient and have a reliable personal vehicle to use for grocery runs and any other personal needs. Host site must be kept clean and orderly.
Hosts will have two weekdays off but must be available for weekends. Duties include:
- helping visitors make reservations and check in to their campsites
- informing visitors of campground/park regulations
- giving directions
- keeping the grounds clean
- notifying park staff of issues that require their attention, such as maintenance or enforcement issues
- tracking hours worked
Park staff will provide training and support in duties as well as all necessary equipment for the position. Hosts will routinely operate a golf cart in the campground and perform duties without direct supervision. An RV pad with full hookups (50 amp electric, water, sewage) will be provided, but hosts must bring their own RVs. Due to the historic factor of the campground, the host site can only accommodate RVs of 30’ or shorter. Please note: shower and laundry facilities are NOT provided.
We are looking for hosts who have strong communication skills, are customer service-oriented, and love being in a beautiful area. Pets are allowed, but must remain leashed when outside the RV.
