Bandelier National Monument is seeking multiple camp hosts for Juniper Family Campground and Ponderosa Group Campground (contact site coordinator for specific information on each campground). These positions require a minimum 3-month commitment. Camp hosts can expect to work at least 32-hours per week and must provide your own trailer or RV.

General Position Description

Camp hosts reside in their own RV and are responsible for greeting visitors and helping guests solve problems in a friendly and professional manner. Hosts wear the National Park Service Volunteer-in-Parks (VIP) uniform while on duty. Camp hosts must work well with people, provide excellent customer service, while being neat in appearance. Hosts are responsible for ensuring reserved campsites are tagged each day and performing compliance checks throughout the day, as well as other minor duties. Candidates must be able to walk between 1-5 miles a day in all kinds of weather. Hosts are expected to work 32-40 hours a week, often during busy holidays and weekends. Fee Collection is NOT required of camp hosts. A minimum commitment of 3 months is required. Volunteers who work 250 hours or more qualify for a free Interagency “America the Beautiful” annual pass. In addition, small monetary stipend may be available.

Camp host positions require: walking bending, shoveling, raking and working outdoors and indoors in all types of weather. You may encounter bears, mountain lions, poisonous snakes and stinging insects in the course of your regular activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Desired qualifications include:

  • Friendly and outgoing personality with good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to perform light cleanup work in outdoor conditions.

·      Interact with a diversity of visitors while maintaining a positive, helpful, and non-confrontational attitude.

·      Ability to serve independently without direct supervision.

  • Minimum of a 16-week (or longer) commitment to position.
