Welcome to Sunset Bay! The Sunset Bay Management Unit consists of three state parks including Cape Arago, Shore Acres, and Sunset Bay. Located on the Southern Oregon Coast, Sunset Bay State Park offers protected coves, rugged coastlines, multiple view points, a formal garden, a 120+ site campground and a 10-mile trail system connecting all three parks.

 

DESCRIPTION:

The Sunset Bay Management Unit is recruiting for an interpretive host(s) to be based out the Sunset Bay Interpretive Center from April to October (this is a 6-month position). Interpretive hosts will work with the park’s interpretive staff throughout the season. The interpretive center is in the middle of the Sunset Bay Campground and acts as the information hub for park guests. Hosts play a vital role in interacting and delivering information to our park guests. In addition to delivering programs, and staffing the building, hosts will assist in the daily upkeep and cleaning of the interpretive yard and building.

Park staff will provide training on the OPRD Jr Ranger Program, fundamentals of interpretation and appropriate time will be given to allow hosts to familiarize themselves with the interpretive material.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staff the Sunset Bay Interpretive Building; 5 days a week.

– Field questions about the surrounding area (trails/sights to see/ flora/ fauna/etc.)

  • Deliver Jr Ranger Programs (programs designed for children ages 8-12) at the interpretive building 3 times a week.
  • Conduct a variety of interpretive programming which can include:

– Hikes

– Evening programs

– Roving interpretation

– Setting up viewing scopes for wildlife or lighthouse viewings

  • Assist interpretive staff with programs.
  • Assist in daily cleaning of interpretive building (vacuuming, washing windows, sanitizing surfaces, etc.)

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people from a variety of backgrounds and of various ages.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Familiar with Oregon State Parks Jr Ranger Programs, and coastal ecosystems.

 

AMENITIES:

  • Full hook up campsite with 30/50amp electricity, water and sewage.
  • Host laundry facilities.
