Passing a background check is required. Volunteers must be able to commit to the full 3 months.
Hosts work 32 hours per week: three days per week in one of five visitor centers plus one day of project or learning time. Hosts must furnish their own trailer or mobile home. Electrical, water and sewer hookups are provided free of charge and propane is reimbursed. Laundry facilities are available. Volunteer housing is 1 mile from the visitor center.
Volunteers must be identifiable to the public. The uniform consists of dark brown or tan pants and a khaki work shirt with VIP patch sewn on the left-hand sleeve. Volunteers will obtain volunteer work shirts and hats upon arrival.
Castolon is located over an hour drive from the nearest town and grocery store. Most visitors coming through Castolon are on their way to Santa Elena Canyon, but the area itself is a wealth of human history.
