Camp Host

The Lowman Ranger District is currently seeking to fill three Camp Host opportunities. Sites include Kirkham Hot Springs, Pine Flats, and Elk Creek guard station.

A free campsite will be provided for the Host(s) who must have a self-contained RV or trailer. Tools and supplies will be furnished by the Forest Service.

Kirkham Hot Springs, ID

Kirkham Hot Springs is located next to the South Fork of the Payette River. The springs are just east of Lowman, Idaho along Highway 21 at an elevation of 4000 feet. Visitors enjoy soaking in the hot springs on the banks of the river and exploring the popular Kirkham Ridge trail. From the parking area a short trail with a staircase leads visitors down to the soaking pools and small steaming waterfalls next to the river. The South Fork of the Payette offers whitewater rafting, kayaking, and trout fishing. Kirkham Hot Springs encounters high use during the summer season and has multiple picnic tables, two vaults, and garbage service available. The Kirkham camp host site has electric, sewer, and water available. Kirkham is also a day-use only site.

Elk Creek, ID

Elk Creek Cabins are located in beautiful but remote Bear Valley at an elevation of 6,400 feet. They are adjacent to the Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness and scenic Elk Creek. The cabins are situated in a high mountain meadow dotted with Douglas fir and lodgepole pine amid the peaks of the Sawtooth Range. During the summer months camp hosts will be responsible for taking care of several remote campgrounds including Bear Valley and Fir Creek. The Elk Creek camp host site has water, sewer, and an on-site generator available for use during the day. Bear Valley has 10 camp sites and 2 vaults, Fir Creek has 8 camp sites and 2 vaults.

Pine Flats, ID

Pine Flats Campground is located a few miles west of Lowman, Idaho, along the Banks-Lowman Highway at an elevation of 3,700 feet. Visitors enjoy rafting, kayaking and fishing on the South Fork Payette River, and soaking in the hot springs at the river’s edge. The Pine Flats host site has sewer available. Pine Flats has 24 Campsites and 2 Vaults

A subsistence reimbursement allowance is available. There is no cell phone coverage in the area.

Boise, Cascade, Crouch, and Stanley are the closest towns for grocery shopping and resupply.

Propane and water are provided weekly by the Forest Service

Adults are preferred, as are seniors or a family. The start and end dates of this opportunity will vary depending on weather conditions/snow.
