DESCRIPTION:
Located on a National Wild and Scenic River in beautiful Western North Carolina, Mortimer Campground gives many outdoor opportunities such as fishing, hiking, and biking. This campground sits north of Morganton, NC on the Pisgah National Forest. In close proximity to many Wilderness areas such as the Linville Gorge Wilderness, Haper Creek Wilderness Study Area, and the Lost Cove Wilderness Study Area. Hundreds of miles trails that get to beautiful waterfalls and mountain top views.
DESCRIPTION
As a U.S. Forest Service volunteer, you will help maintain Mortimer Campground on the Pisgah National Forest and provide customer service to visitors. Volunteers must stay onsite in a camper or RV and be available throughout the week and especially on the weekends. Approximate workload is 20 hours a week. Pets are welcome but must be discussed prior to accepting this volunteer position. Volunteers may stay for a maximum of 7 months. Experience hosting campgrounds or public recreation areas is preferred, but not required. Training and instruction for required tasks will be provided. Optimal candidates are self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and with other people.
DUTIES
-Greeting and educating visitors about recreation site rules
-Janitorial services (clean restrooms, empty trash cans)
-Lawn & campsite maintenance. (Checking sites for debris)
-Camping fee compliance checks
-General facility maintenance
