Volunteer Activities• Construction/Maintenance • Other • Trail/Campground Maintenance • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionFull-Time hosts are needed for our day use recreation area Sitting Bull Falls and Last Chance Canyon on the Guadalupe Ranger District of the Lincoln National Forest. Last Chance Canyon is located just outside of Sitting Bull Falls. Sitting Bull Falls is truly a hidden desert oasis and gem that attracts both local and out of state visitors. The Guadalupe Ranger District is located in the Chihuahuan Desert where day time temps in the summer can exceed 100 degrees and, in the winter, temps can dip down to 20 degrees or less. Rain fall is sporadic with most of the annual 12 inches of rain falling during monsoon season which is late July through early October. Host Responsibilities: Hosts must have good people skills and be responsible. Visitation from May-September can reach 1,000 people daily. Other times of the year there will be a handful of people. Volunteers must be physically able to perform the following: opening and closing the gates, cleaning the bathrooms, lawn care and maintenance including mowing, weed wacking and edging. Other responsibilities include informing visitors of the rules, making sure they pay the entry fee, and cleaning the grills. Host Site: You must provide your own RV. At the Sitting Bull Falls site there is sewer and landline phone service. There is wifi in the office which is roughly 50 ft. from the host site. At the Last Chance Canyon site only sewer is provided. There are laundry machines at our Administrative Site in Queen, NM which is roughly a 30 min from Sitting Bull Falls and Last Chance Canyon. Setting: The closest town with amenities, stores, medical, etc., is Carlsbad which is located roughly 50 miles from Sitting Bull Falls and Last Chance Canyon. Bigger cities within a three-hour drive of Carlsbad include Roswell, NM; El Paso, TX; Midland-Odessa, TX; and Lubbock, TX Schedule: 30-40 hours per week. Work 5 days on with 2 days off consecutively. Sitting Bull Falls is open from 8:30-5:00 during fall/winter and 8:30-6:00 during spring/summer. HOUSING & AMENITIESType: Trailer/RV PadsDescription: RV pad provided.
