Volunteer Activities• Conservation Education • Office/Clerical • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information • Fish/Wildlife • General Assistance Photo Courtesy of FWS DescriptionTo learn more about the Refuge, please visit http://www.fws.gov/refuge/ash_meadows/  or watch the Refuge movie https://vimeo.com/groups/13672/videos/87197860 As a Visitor Center Host, you will:  Greet visitors from around the world in our brand new, state-of-the-art visitor center; Concisely explain to visitors the Refuge purpose, regulations, basic wildlife viewing advice, and general orientation; Direct reports from visitors of problems, violations, or issues to appropriate refuge staff. Operate the visitor center bookstore and cash register (must possess basic math skills for handling transactions involving money); Sell memberships and accept monetary donations for the Refuge’s non-profit partner organization; Death Valley Natural History Association. Answer phone calls and provide basic information; Maintain visitor center in a clean and tidy condition; clean, sweep, vacuum, dust, wash windows, wipe counters, empty trash cans, mop, and occasionally clean restrooms.  Rove nearby boardwalks in order to interact with public to increase visitor understanding of the Refuge mission and objectives; Pick up and dispose of litter found along trails and other visitor areas; May assist Refuge Education Specialist with education programs or research, develop, and conduct interpretive programs based on the needs of the Refuge and the interests of the volunteer. Side projects for interested volunteers may include indoor projects such as data entry, filing, and other administrative tasks or outdoor projects such as assisting habitat restoration projects or light maintenance duties. Comply with volunteer uniform policy.
