Volunteer Activities• Construction/Maintenance • Other • Visitor Information • General Assistance • Weed/Invasive Species Control Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionA host couple is needed for the Caretaker position at the spectacular Cape Perpetua Scenic Area in the Siuslaw National Forest from May 2020 to September 2020. Duties include groundskeeping at the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area to include mowing, use of a power blower, and brush trimming. Duties also include maintaining and cleaning 4 area restrooms a minimum of 2 days a week. Volunteers will assist the Cape Perpetua Forest Service Developed Recreation Technician with projects, facility maintenance, and grounds keeping as needed. The position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds and requires hiking and extended time on feet. Volunteers will provide friendly visitor service in the course of performing duties. Hours are approximately 4 to 5 hours a day 5 days a week. Applicant will be required to obtain a Forest Service Driver’s License and wear a Volunteer vest and uniform outerwear provided by the Forest Service. We offer an RV site at a work center located about 8 miles north of Cape Perpetua. Mileage reimbursement is .22 a mile for travel to and from the visitor center. Hookups include water, sewer, 50-amp electrical, wireless internet and reimbursement for propane usage. Cell phone coverage is spotty. There is a washer and drier currently available at Cape Perpetua. Cape Perpetua Scenic Area has 26 miles of hiking trails, magnificent old-growth coastal rainforest, wilderness areas, rocky shore tide-pools, beaches, and an off shore Marine Reserve. Nearby are the small coastal towns of Yachats and Waldport.
