Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionA summer host is needed to staff the Bead Lake Boat Launch on the Newport Ranger District, Colville National Forest, from mid-May through mid-September.  Bead Lake is a natural lake formed in a glacial basin which covers over 720 acres in beautiful northeastern Washington.  The lake is locally known for its extremely clear water.   We need an energetic, enthusiastic couple or single individual to staff the boat launch on a five (5) day week schedule including weekend days. Typical days off will be Tuesday and Wednesday. Setting:  The closest town and Forest Service office is located in Newport, Washington, nine miles southwest of the facility.  Newport is a full service community of 2,100 people and is located approximately 45 miles northeast of the city of Spokane, WA (population 300,000).  Northeast Washington is heavily forested with many lakes, streams and rivers that provide outstanding recreation opportunities. Host Responsibilities: Host(s) must have good people skills and be responsible. The host(s) will be expected to perform the daily cleaning and minor maintenance of the launch facilities. The host(s) must be physically able to perform such tasks as raking, shoveling, sweeping, performing minor maintenance, inspecting the boat launch, keeping daily records and monitoring area use. Host(s) will represent the Forest Service in public contacts, providing information and directions, and reporting vandalism and other problems to ranger district personnel. All necessary tools, supplies and safety equipment will be provided. Host duties include:  greeting visitors; directing traffic and users through the launch area; distributing brochures or other information; cleaning the restroom and resupplying toilet paper; litter pick-up; informing users about fee information; restocking fee envelopes; and maintaining a daily log of launches and number of visitors. Schedule: 40 hours per week. Typical schedule is five (8 hour) days on and two days off (usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays) with adjustments to the schedule to cover holidays.  Reimbursement for subsistence will be provided.    Host Site:  Full hook-up (water, electrical, garbage and wastewater) is provided as well as a cell phone and Forest Service radio.  NOTE:  Host(s) must provide a fully self-contained RV or trailer in well-maintained condition.    HOUSING & AMENITIESType: Trailer/RV PadsDescription: A full hook up (water, electrical & wastewater) site is provided as well as a cell phone and Forest Service radio.
