DESCRIPTION:
Primary duties are to meet and greet visitors to the site, open and close the visitor’s center and site gate daily, manage sales in the visitor’s center, and maintain visitor facalities. A knowledge of Civil War history is recomended, however not required. A willingness to read up and learn the history of Fort Craig and the Battle of Valverde is highly encourged. Must live on-site. A modern RV is required and will be within public view. Site has 30 and 50 amp hookup, water, propane and septic. A $30.00 per day per diem stipend may be available. Fort Craig is located approximatly 40 miles South of Socorro, New Mexico in a very remote location. The closest shopping is either Socorro, NM or Truth or Consequences, NM. The closest mail delivery is San Antonio, NM. Ability to clean restroom, picnic facilities, and visitor’s center with common cleaners such as pine cleaner and bleach is required. Retired couples are encourged to apply. Any pets must be approved by BLM staff in advance.
