JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
CLASSIFICATION TITLE OF THE JOB: Camp Host – Paid
CLASSIFICATION NUMBER: N/A
CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY: Seasonal Temporary, Non-Benefited Position working 20-40 hours per week.
DEPARTMENT: Linn County Parks and Recreation
Parks are located along Hwy 22 in the USFS – Detroit Ranger District as well as along Hwy 126 in the USFS – McKenzie River Ranger District; for a full list of parks please visit linnparks.com. These parks are remote in location and not near city services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: (Depending on assigned Park location, you may be required to perform any or all of these essential job functions):
Greet park guests; answer questions; share local recreation opportunities with guests.
· Provide a quality recreational experience for park guests; display a kind and helpful attitude.
· Check and stock restrooms, clean fire pits, pick up/dispose of trash and maintain trash receptacles.
· Assure cleanliness of campsites between guests; clean and maintain day use areas.
· Sell firewood and/or ice.
· Assist guest with FC/FS registration and site selection, if needed.
· Immediately report any maintenance concerns, unsafe conditions or needed repairs to your supervisor.
· May include other specific duties as agreed upon with park staff.
· Required to work, and live, in the campground.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Must have strong customer service skills; enjoy working in an environment with extensive public contact.
Ability to learn park rules, area information, and educate park visitors.
Ability to follow directions, manage multiple tasks to parks standards and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Must be available to work evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Position requires frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive forward and overhead reaching. Ability to lift/carry 40lbs. and push objects weighing up to 75lbs; Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
Ability to move safely over rough and uneven terrain.
Ability to operate basic maintenance and landscaping tools.
Ability to tow own RV in and out of campgrounds in emergency situations.
Must have or be willing to obtain a First Aid/AED Card.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate from a senior high school or have your GED; possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and pass a criminal background check. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire. Hosts must abide by Linn County Parks/USFS campground rules.
Must live on site; maintain a tidy, free of clutter, campsite; must have a self-contained recreational vehicle; approved RV must be fully operational, clean in appearance, well maintained and in good working condition.
Some sites have full hook up, some have only water and sewer and some are primitive.
Personal property shall be covered by your own insurance; Linn County will not, and cannot, replace any lost, stolen or damaged property.
Position is generally 4-6 months in duration. In general, parks open the mid-April through the beginning of May and close between the end of September and beginning of November.
SALARY, BENEFITS, COMPENSATION: This is a Seasonal Temporary, Non-Benefited Position; $14.20 per hour plus campsite.
