ADDRESS: Iron River National Fish Hatchery
Iron River, Wisconsin 54847
DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service
DATES: 6/3/2024 – 8/30/2024
DESCRIPTION:
Iron River National Fish Hatchery is a broodstock and production facility located in northern Wisconsin. The hatchery specializes in lake trout, coaster brook trout and lake sturgeon restoration in the Upper Great Lakes. We are looking for 1-2 individuals from June through August to assist hatchery staff with an assortment of tasks. Tasks could include landscaping, gardening, lawn maintenance, visitor services, office cleaning, small carpentry jobs, trail maintenance, and assisting with fish propagation projects. Time frame can be extended or shortened to fit your schedule. In exchange for approximately 20-24 hours per/person/week, volunteers receive full hook up, level concrete RV lot with 50-30 amp service, water and sewer hook-ups, picnic table, onsite laundry, shower facilities and limited Wi-Fi.
Iron River NFH is a remote facility and is situated on 1,200 acres of beautiful mixed forest and agricultural land that is open to the public for many recreation purposes. IRNFH has a 3.5 mile hiking trail, 3D walking archery range, pavilion, playground and a visitor center and hatchery that are open 365 days a year. Check us out at https://www.fws.gov/fish-hatchery/iron-river.
Iron River NFH is located in beautiful northern Wisconsin, 10 miles south of Lake Superior and 8 miles north of Iron River WI. Iron River WI is about mid-way between Superior WI and Ashland WI and about 1 hr from Duluth MN, a big shopping hub and location of the nearest airport. Iron River has many amenities such as a library, clinic, grocery store and many of the other things people are looking for such as gas stations, restaurants, churches, winery, and bars. Snow and sub-freezing temperatures are the norm for spring weather, so the start date is pretty firm for RVers. Summer is beautiful and allows for a variety of opportunities that include hiking, camping, fishing, boating and four-wheeling (with access to hundreds of miles of trail). Lake Superior is in your backyard! If this sounds like the place for you or someone you know, please apply or pass on the information.
