This beautiful day-use park is located on the banks of the Rogue River and at the foot of geologically prominent Table Rocks. Popular activities include picnicking, fishing, boating, swimming, and hiking. Denman Wildlife Refuge, next to the park, teems with local and migratory birds.
Hosts have access to a secure full hook up site inside the fenced area near the shop which can accommodate a 40 ft trailer. This site is back in only. There is space to park additional vehicles if necessary. Laundry is also available on site.
Location of Assignment: Touvelle State Park
Time Commitment/Schedule: 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week
Purpose of Volunteer Role: The Day use Host provides service for a park by supporting landscaping, general repair, special maintenance projects, and maintenance shop upkeep.
General Responsibilities:
· Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner.
· Organize, inventory, and maintain cleanliness of tools, shop, and shared maintenance spaces.
· General landscaping duties including: pruning, raking, weeding, mowing, and trimming.
· Performing minor building maintenance including: light painting, bulb replacement, minor safety repairs & construction.
· Clean-up and debris removal.
· Accomplish tasks using tools including: basic hand and power tools, blowers, and trimmers.
· Provide support for maintenance staff.
· Open and close Park gates
Required Qualifications:
· Be at least 18 years old.
· Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
· Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time.
· Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
· Operate utility vehicles (golf carts, gators, etc.).
· Ability to be flexible and work as a team with staff and other hosts.
Additional Responsibilities, Based on Park Need:
· Operate and maintain small powered equipment.
· Provide assistance and support to staff for maintenance and repair of large equipment and vehicles.
· Provide assistance and support to staff in maintenance and construction projects.
· Drive state vehicles.
· Perform general trail maintenance, including brushing, tread work, and building drainages.
· Assisting with various projects throughout the park if needed.
Restricted Tasks: Case by case basis: Needs District Manager and Safety Program Coordinator approval
· Performing high hazard tasks as outlined in the Volunteers and Safety Sensitive Tasks Procedure, including:
o Operating chainsaws and heavy equipment.
o Servicing large equipment, plumbing, electrical work, and/or welding.
o Working at a height over 6 ft. or excavation deeper than 4 ft.
o Confined space entry
o Exposure to contaminants requiring respiratory protection.
· Enforce park rules. Hosts may share information on rules, but not enforce or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This task is prohibited and not subject to approval
