DESCRIPTION:
Hosts are requested to be available for public interaction most of the day and expected to make full rounds early in the morning and evening. Hosts are not expected to contact visitors after daylight hours or to participate in law enforcement activities. Working weekends will be required due to the increase in visitor use.
Duties Include but are not limited to:
-Host at campground must be able to use personal vehicle to travel the campground and have a good driving record. A mileage reimbursement is provided for task related to the upkeep and maintenance of the day use area.
-Oversight of day use area that includes daily checking and cleaning and stocking vault toilets if needed.
-Manage visitor use and advising of rules and regulations
-Maintain daily logs and mileage expense reports in a timely manner.
-Talk to visitors and answering questions
-Provide information about recreation opportunities of the forest
-Educate visitors on fire safety, Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly principles, and bear food storage requirements
-Report any damages, issues, or concerns to district staff as well as Forest Service LEO’s if needed.
Training and a district orientation will be provided. A federal background check will be conducted upon award of the position. If couples wish to volunteer an application must be completed for EACH person.
The volunteer must always present a neat, professional appearance and wear appropriate uniform components, which will be provided at no cost.
The Delmoe Lake Campground host site does not have hook ups. A propane tank can be provided by the district if needed, electricity is not provided at this site however the district can provide gasoline for generators. Potable water can be found at the campground via a traditional hand pump, transfer tanks and potable water can also be found at the Butte Ranger Station.
Delmoe Lake Campground and Picnic area is located 15 miles from Whitehall and Butte in the Whitetail-Pipestone area – a popular destination for OHV riding. The lake is a man-made reservoir.
The campground has 25 sites for trailer and tent camping. Maximum trailer length is 32 feet. Water and restrooms are available. The picnic area has tables and a boat launch primarily for fishing. The lake level will fluctuate during the summer season as the water is used for irrigation.
Position is NOT required or permitted to collect fees from the visitors.
