DESCRIPTION
Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Trail/Campground Maintenance • Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionThe Sequoia National Forest is named for the world’s largest trees and celebrates the greatest concentration of giant sequoia groves in the world. The landscape is as spectacular as the trees with soaring granite monoliths and roaring whitewater. Elevations range from 1,000 feet in the lower canyons to peaks over 12,000 feet on the crest of the Sierra, providing panoramic views in a dramatic range of settings. Camp 9 is located on the east side of Isabella Lake off Sierra Way. Isabella is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California with over 11,000 surface acres. From fishing to boating, camping to picnicking, the lake offers one of the best fresh-water recreation experiences in close proximity to Los Angeles and Bakersfield for year-round fishing, boating, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Elevation is approximately 2,500 feet. Please note that water levels at Lake Isabella in 2014 are low and not immediately accessible from Camp 9. Camp 9 has paved roads; 109 family units; restrooms (1 flush type); chemical toilets; RV dump station; boat launch; fish cleaning station; group sites with shelters, tables, grills, and water; no limit on trailer length. There are no showers. This campground is operated by the U.S. Forest Service and is first come first serve with the exception of the group sites, which are available by reservation at recreation.gov. Campground hosts greet visitors and assist campers with registration, inform visitors of regulations, and provide area information. Hosts perform minor maintenance tasks including cleaning restrooms and removing litter; maintain a neat and organized work area and campsite; report any hazards in or out of the campground to Forest Service staff and report any law enforcement issues to Law Enforcement Rangers or agency staff. The Forest Service will provide a host site with full hookups. Hosts will be expected to provide their own RV. Position requirements: Enjoy meeting and talking with people, be friendly and helpful to all campground visitors. Be in good physical health and have the ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Have a professional and courteous demeanor. Set a good example for other campers. A camp host couple is preferred due to the busy summer workload. HOUSING & AMENITIESType: Trailer/RV PadsDescription: Host Site includes hook-ups for water, electricity and sewage.
