DESCRIPTION

Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Trail/Campground Maintenance • Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of FS DescriptionThe Sequoia National Forest is named for the world’s largest trees and celebrates the greatest concentration of giant sequoia groves in the world. The landscape is as spectacular as the trees, with soaring granite monoliths and roaring whitewater. Elevations range from 1,000 feet in the lower canyons to peaks over 12,000 feet on the crest of the Sierra, providing panoramic views in a dramatic range of settings. Auxiliary Dam Recreation Area is located on the west side of Isabella Lake off Highway 178. It is approximately one mile east of the community of Lake Isabella.  Isabella is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California with over 11,000 surface acres. From fishing to boating, camping to picnicking, the lake offers one of the best fresh-water recreation experiences in close proximity to Los Angeles and Bakersfield for year-round fishing, boating, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Elevation is approximately 2,500 feet. Auxiliary Dam Recreation Area is largely undeveloped; however it does offer vault restrooms and trash service as well as 5 developed campsites. The rest of the area is open to undeveloped shoreline camping and day use. An RV dump station is also located between Auxiliary Dam Recreation Site and Old Isabella Recreation Site. A boat launch and marina is located next to Auxiliary Dam, at the Old Isabella Road Recreation Area; there is no limit on trailer length. This area is open year round and is popular with campers, anglers, and windsurfers. The recreation area is operated by the U.S. Forest Service and is first come, first serve. Southern Sierra Passes (Daily or Annual) are required for overnight and day-use visitors. Passes cost $10/day or $50/year. Campground hosts greet visitors, inform visitors of regulations, and provide area information. Hosts perform minor maintenance tasks including cleaning restrooms, removing litter, painting, and weed reduction; maintain a neat and organized work area and campsite; report any hazards in or out of the campground to Forest Service staff and report any law enforcement issues to Law Enforcement Rangers or agency staff. The Forest Service will provide a host site with full hookups. Hosts will be expected to provide their own RV. Opportunity requirements: Enjoy meeting and talking with people; be energetic, friendly and helpful to all campground visitors. Be in good physical health and have the ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Have a professional and courteous demeanor. Set a good example for other campers. A camp host couple is preferred due to the busy summer workload. HOUSING & AMENITIESType: Trailer/RV PadsDescription: Host Site includes hook-ups for water, electricity and sewage.
