ADDRESS: 21 Pintail Ln Natchez, Mississippi, 39120
DATES: 2024-04-01
DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service
JOB DESCRIPTION:
St. Catherine Creek NWR is a beautiful 25,000-acre wildlife refuge on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River which attracts thousands of migrating birds, from ducks to shorebirds to neotropical migrant songbirds.
We are looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to tend the pollinator garden over the spring and summer. Ages 18 and up may apply, and couples are encouraged to apply. To stay in refuge housing or RV pad, a six week minimum commitment of 15 hours per week per resident is needed. Days and hours are negotiable.
Weed-pulling, weed whacking, lopping, pruning, tree-trimming, and using the zero-turn mower are the duties, and miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the refuge manager. Tools and a work vehicle are provided on-site. The air conditioned building, restrooms, and a kitchen are only steps away when you need a break. Starting August 1, duties will expand to include answering phones and helping visitors get permits for fishing and hunting.
HOUSING:
Sheltered RV pad with full hookups (water, sewer, electric) can fit up to 48 ft RV. It’s secluded up on a hill safe from floods and set amongst trees. A house is available on a limited basis with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Laundry room and showers/bathrooms are available on site.
