JOB DESCRIPTION:
This National Park Service Volunteer-In-Parks position functions within the Facilities Management and Operations Division of Yellowstone National Park. The applicants selected for this volunteer position will be full time, (32 hour/week) uniformed members of the workforce.
As members of the workforce, volunteers are expected to be active participants in our safety program and to practice safe work behaviors. Additionally, the volunteer is expected to contribute to a positive workplace culture where respect and professionalism are a priority and negative behaviors such as harassment and bullying are not tolerated.
Applicants may be considered for positions at Canyon, Grant, and Lake seasonal worker campgrounds. The National Park Service will provide a campsite with utilities (water, sewer, and electric hookups) within the campground. The National Park Service will provide propane. The campground host will provide their own RV/trailer.
These campgrounds are operated by the National Park Service for use by seasonal workers. There are no park visitors in these campgrounds.
These campgrounds offer cellular service, although not all service providers provide coverage to these areas.
Volunteer must be able to learn quickly and work independently as part of the Facilities Management Team. The volunteer must have a strong awareness and sensitivity to park policies, procedures and chain of command, and to follow the specific direction of the Facilities Management Supervisors.
Duties include:
Maintain assigned campsite in accordance with all park regulations and set a good example for other campground residents.
Contact seasonal workers throughout the campground, providing information on Yellowstone National Park campground regulations and the surrounding areas as necessary.
Interpret campground regulations for seasonal workers. Report law enforcement issues to park law enforcement rangers. Report administrative issues to Facilities Management Supervisors.
Ensure seasonal workers understand and are following food storage regulations. Contact law enforcement rangers to follow up with campers.
DOES NOT PERFORM LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Keep accurate records.
Assist campground residents after hours on occasion.
Assist with other projects inside or outside the campground as coordinated with supervisors.
Drive a government vehicle, e.g. motor vehicle or golf cart.
